Black Affair is the new project from the ever prolific Steve Mason, best known for his work with The Beta Band and various solo projects including King Biscuit Time. ‘Tak! Attack!’ is Black Affair’s debut, and the first thing that comes to mind is how much Steve Mason sounds like the Human League’s Phil Oakey, making the big synth pop riffs of ‘Tak Attack’ sound unashamedly and totally nostalgic eighties. But listen a little more carefully and there‚s some clever housey doings going on as well. The B-side ‘Blush’ takes a much darker route bringing John Foxx era Ultravox to mind. Wonder what sort of haircut Mr Mason is sporting at the moment.
