SCAPE ONE
SHOCKWAVE RIDER EP
PNUMA

Soma’s new offshoot made a glorious entrance with the deep techno of Lee Van Dowski and Quenum. They follow through in spectacular style with a four-pronged EP by UK pure electro scientist Kurt Baggeley, aka Scape One. The fact that his previous work has appeared on labels like Satomile, Electrix, Iwari and his own Adaptive Programs gives a clue. The title track sets up a rock steady groove for twittering pulses, alien squelches and wafting strings to beam in. ‘The Mind Cage’ goes bottomless and glacial with orchestral flourishes. ‘Flashback’ is like a creeping stealth bomber splattered with video game noises and Ken Dodd’s tickling stick in the under-carriage. ‘Klaatu’ plants eerie textures aboard a basic space-funk groove wig-out. Right now some of the most exciting music is cavorting under the electro banner and  reshaping it from the original blueprint – at last.
