It’s sometimes refreshing to encounter a record that makes no bones about the fact that it’s aimed squarely at a horde of people who are off their collective cake. Yes, it’s the Radio One DJ, seemingly in cahoots with the Jericho crew, and he’s aiming his big room guns at the highest level of whoopee maintenance. ‘Lift’ scoots along on a groove that bends, bubbles and whizzes in all the right places and, after a drop designed to whisk away the sternest toupee, brings in the kind of one-finger keyboard riff which will probably cause mass destruction out there. The flip’s ‘Annihilating Rhythm’
is a malevolent, bass-droning pounder with 808 cowbell and wanking hippo momentum – all dropping for a breakdown which brings in a deja near-hardcore riff for further liftoff. This’ll put a smile on your upturned bottom.
