Instrumental hip-hop that despite its best attempts, is a million miles away from an RJD2 voyage of discovery, nearer to a Crooklyn Clan cut-n-paste, but a little lean on the up-jumps-the-boogie factor. What’s left is an efficient but crazily ordinary collection of breaks and soundbites, spliced with snatches of a Shaft spoof knocking boots. No doubt a decent tool for some, but the Vinyl Thugs have done much better, and flogging the obsolete “this is a journey into sound” sample is simply taking the Michael.
