There’s been a lot of talk and rumour concerning DJ Shadow’s new direction on his forthcoming album, amid rumours that Josh Davis has totally shrugged off the sampletastic DJ Shadow trip-hop vibe of “Endtroducing” which defined an era, favouring a more roots based aesthetic. If the first single is anything to judge it by, the rumours could be right. “Enuff” is simple yet catchy, sporting an acoustic guitar riff over tricky oldschool beats, whilst Q-Tip & Lateef the Truth Speaker provide singalong rhymes and urging the listeners to “dance, dance, dance, go crazy, get dumb..”. “Midnight In A Perfect World This Ain’t”. Hyped party-hardy hip-hop that’s about good times regardless of what people think, this most definitely is. Essential.
