A shame this is only digital but if it were vinyl it may well sport a throbbing rooster’s stiffie, making placing on the decks difficult. Lead cut ‘Smile’ is the kind of tune which eases in subtly on pulsating groove action before building into glorious sonic plateaux, in this case with spiralling melodies and Mayday-style flickers betraying 23-year-old Mario from Croatia’s classical training. He also has a nifty way with jazz piano going on the flourishes littering ‘From Above’, while ‘My Need Is You’ is content with its sturdy organ groove [and delighted with the sublime remix from Taipei’s Nosa Recordings supremo Sona]. This is Mario’s debut release: definitely a name to watch.
