‘The Porn Bass Ep’ (only the second issue on Amine Edge’s Cuff Recordings label) flies at you like a titanium-gloved bitchslap. Here you get four tracks of increasing strength and power for your money. ‘Came Around’ is a lights off, heads down, dance like no-one’s watching cut that uses Justin Timberlake’s ‘What Goes Around’ to excellent effect. ‘Put It On Your Ass’ ups the tempo for a romp through thumping hip house territory. ‘The Nine-The Oh-The Motherfucking Nine’ is a seismic, aural treat that works a wonky, who-ate-all-the-pies bassline around all the percussive sounds that made old skool techno, house and rave sound so goddamned grand. In your face. Finally ‘Next to You’ works the wiggly woo bells, space effects, bottle hits, descending and ascending piano scales and techno synth pads for all they’re worth until the gruff, growled ‘Next To You’ vocal falls like manna from heaven into your lap. If only the last two tracks were on this EP you’d think you’d won the lottery but generous Cuff Recordings have given you four of the best. I’d call that a wise investment for all concerned.
