Bontan – ‘Mind Dimension’ EP – (Suara)

Heavy two tracker from tech house don Bontan on Suara here, who is undoubtedly one of the finds of recent times. ‘Reality’ is a good enough groove, which benefits well form a slightly pared back undercurrent of real menace and enough whizzing electronics to make you get going. You knopw those records you drop when you mean business but don;t want to go too far? This does that, a proper peak time pace setter if you know what I mean.

The flip is even better. ‘State of Mind’ starts off innocuously enough, a decent swing and nice bass the undercurrent for a sample of an unnamed American lamenting his slide into drugs. That’s where the track follows, looping the word ‘work’ over and over again before a breakdown ratchets up the tension before the yout intone how he “never relaised how mistaken iI was”. That;’s the cue for an epic drop, phat bass overload and a gorgeous acid squiggle. Very well produced, and very effective.
