Apparently Ben Parkinson, the Shoreditch-based DJ-producer behind this new label, is heavily influenced by late nights at Back to Basics and it shows on its maiden voyage courtesy newcomer Burnski: depth, soul and disregard for musical boxes as long as it rocks the house. The EP boasts a sublime threesome starting with the marvellous ‘Hanging Monkey’, which oozes deep house class as it motors along on a simple-but-deadly riff goosed by early 90s Nu Groove style chords and jazzy squiggles to intoxicating effect. ‘Herodias’ begins life as a minimal throbber bent on moving the collective arse, while ‘Old Run’ could be my favourite track, plunging again into deep Strictly-Nu Groove waters with a touch of disco fever boiling in its pubes. All told, a great way to start a label.
