Buru – Fitting the Pattern – (Konstruktiv)

Over the course of the past while, Berlin-based label Konstruktiv has put its stamp on a whole plethora of great releases, featuring originals and remixes by some of the game’s most foremost talents. For their latest, they switch their attention to BuRu, an emerging producer yet somebody who possesses a sound that would suggest they’ve been in the game for some time. Entitled the Fitting the Pattern EP, this is one that’s stuffed to the brim with personality from the offset. We get going with ‘Fist’, a really banging techno anthem that’s fast paced and concocted with some really grinding touches at its core. The lo-fi vibes are indicative of some of Warp’s most treasured releases, and we can see this one going down a treat with the likes of Ben Klock, Surgeon et al. ‘Others’ tones things down considerably thanks to a metallic and industrial sheen, but it too is sure to get under the skin. Label owner Rekord 61 then remixes it, and its analogue palette is enhanced by the muffled noises and a gigantic baseline that’ll sound most apt when dropped at the right time. ‘Curfew’ then showcases the producer’s liking for more melancholic wares, before he signs off soon after with Nauruan Stranger’s remix of the latter. Soaked in poise and blissful colours, it’s a fitting ending to a brilliantly contrasting EP.
