Claptone – Dear Life Ft. Jaw – (Exploited)

The man in the golden mask (and with the golden touch) returns to our airwaves and dance space with ‘Dear Life’, a terrace and radio friendly, folk house vocal that shimmers in the light, radiates heat and entices your ears with the elegant hook ‘sometimes I wish I was blind, to see the other’s beauty’. As refreshing as a strong watermelon daiquiri. Best served on a summer’s day with lots of ice, sun, sea and sand. ‘Secret Lover’ amps up the energy for a crossover, 80s funk-fuelled excursion that owes as much to Zapp, Cameo, Prince and Bootsy Collins as it does to locked vocal loops, Hammond, Moog and ARP. It’s all about the groove you see. Two very different tracks – one consistent result. Floorfillers both.
