Moodymanc’s entry into the world a while back was mysterious and startling but now Danny Ward, aka Dubble D of 2020 Soundsystem, is well-known for floor-detonating groove monsters – such as this latest outing on Tsuba’s brilliant Colours offshoot [where twelves come in limited, shrink-wrapped and coloured vinyl form]. ‘Seedz’ is a 90s NY-style tribal thumper splattered with jazzy keys, skewed riffs and trumpet, conjuring a kind of African space-jazz collision to fabulous effect. The dark and booming Drum Dub speaks for itself while the flip’s ‘Thumbs Up’ brings acid house to the carnival with pulsing bongos and throbbing turbo-shorts. Dynamite.
