Dansor – Theory of Love – (Comport)

Dansor’s Comport label is nothing if not unpredictable. That said, the main theme that courses throughout their releases seem to revolve around a quality-centered motif, and it’s a vibe that’s central once more on her latest package. Though not a household names, Dansor’s talents are obvious, while her knack for sniffing out a tune is most impressive. The Theory of Love EP is a great indication of what she’s all about, as she teams up with vocalist Ayden Vice with stunning results.

Dark and full of intricacies aplenty, the original, Theory of Love, caresses the senses at a bountiful pace, as the prominent bassline lays out its appeal in vicious, visceral terms. Arguably one of the label’s most different cuts for some time, it sees Dansor go in a different direction that we wouldn’t necessarily associate with their output, and in many ways it forces parallels with the work of Crosstown Rebels et al.

Jiggler’s remix another zippy track that’s astute from the off. Melodic when it needs to be and grinding when the situation arises, it’s a versatile weapon that can be dropped at any stage of the night. Finally, matters sign off with Animal Picnic’s remix, my own personal favourite. An unashamed amount of glistening chords and synth stabs are the order of the day here, and it roundly caps off a release that’s high on suspense from the offset.
