Only the fourth release from Birmingham’s DeepCitySoul outfit for their DeeCeeEss label, yet it sounds like the kind of material that you’d associate with NY labels steeped in decades of house music culture. “Earthly Angel” is a classically styled house vocal, led by Jonathon Allen & Darren Ellison, replete with hipsnapping drums, deep bass and gloriously uplifting keyboard and trumpet interplay. Damn, those keys would sound at home on an early Easy St release! A stack of remixes available, including Sir Piers, Guy Robin, Clappy DJ & Davide Murri ft Fabrizio Scarafile, Dropfunkdialect and the DeepCitySoul guys themselves. Credit where it’s due, all of the remixes are worthwhile, however you should really be sticking with the terrifically soulful original mix. Outstanding.
