Deeplastik – Crossroad EP

Producers clatering their sound is nothing new in dance music, but it’s still rare that they’re able to do so with such ease and gusto. Deeplastik, quite clearly, is not your average producer. Despite spending an extensive time in the breaks scene, he crops up here on his Dichotomic label for a release that’s more progressive and house-centric than it is breaks oriented. Mind you, that’s no bad thing, as this is a release that’s sure to be rapturously received wherever it’s allowed to roam free.

We get underway courtesy of original, “Crossroad”, a title that may or may not allude to the producer’s change in musical stance. Anyway, it’s an all-round curious proposition, and a track that – though not nailing its colours to any particular genre mast – still keeps us enthralled thanks to its many harmonious ways. As much a song as it is a track per se, there’s enough going on on this one to suggest some crossover potential. Of the remixes, the first to arrive on our radar is SICHI’s, which sees the EP take on a more dancefloor-oriented basis. Hypnotic and ominous but also future-leaning and positive in its approach, there’s a lot going on here but it still seems to come off with some applomb. Culminating matters is the sounds of Alexic Rod, who goes all out with a mix that’s more relentless than the other two tracks on offer. In all, it offers a nice alternative to the other tracks and wraps everything up in a tidy manner.
