Deetron – Music Over Matter (Music Man Records)

There are lots of words to employ in describing Deetron’s second artist album, although stunning is certainly in amongst them. Never one to rest on any one musical idea too long the album explores plenty in the way of vocal possibilities, alongside its succession of challenging, exciting sounds that are all the more so for the inclusion of a great array of guest artists.

Including the singles, ‘Crave’ with Hercules & Love Affair and his latest collaboration with Ben Westbeech, ‘Rhythm’ the album’s many standout points capture everything from the breathy Jazz of, ‘Sing’ to the sassy, percussion fuelled, ‘Can’t Love You More’. The beauty of Music Over Matter is that while it feels organic it’s still plugged into the exciting current in contemporary electronic music, neither afraid of being soulful and vocal, or even slightly twisted and unsettling when required.

Try, the Chicago flavoured ‘Love Song’ featuring Seth Troxler and the deeper emotions of ‘Strange Things’ feat. Simbad & Justin Chapman to taste the breadth and range that the album has to offer.
