Andy ‘Droido’ Graham’s follow-up to last year’s ‘Hazed’ EP is a deceptively simple blend of lethal basement grooves and contemporary minimal production additives which tear the roof off the sucker with fearsome intent. The title cut sets up a prowling bass rumble under old school jacking groove lashed with odd vocal snatches and occasionally elevated by ‘ghetto children singing’ hook and disembodied female vocals. A supreme early hours basement-blasting blowout. ‘It’s Like’ weaves a subtle web of subterranean dislocation, building on a sepulchral drone with rebel machines clicking and whirring towards a formidable buildup. ‘Trystep’ is a queasy dream-sequence almost reaching nightmare proportions with vocal shards, odd clonks and fragments of efx over another floorboard-rattling bass beast of a groove. The crowning touch is what sounds like a toy piano plonking away on top. Another gem from France’s Missive and definitely a major new talent to be scared of.
