Initially a new label started by Louis Vega and Mike Weiss of Nervous Records fame – and what a way to launch. Setting out as they mean to go on, the combination of Duane Harden (of ‘You Don’t Know Me’ and ‘Stop Playing With My Mind’ fame), along with the production input of a solo Master At Work is a temping one on its own, but add a driving loop to power the engine room and the record is as good as sold. Duane’s the master of sermon-like storytelling, and whilst lyrically there’s nothing new in the “let’s go back to Paradise Garage and Zanzibar” subject matter, the driving piano-led rhythm and almost spiritually charged message is enough to rattle any pulpit come Sunday morning.
