The vocal hook center’s around Lamont Dozier’s ‘ Going back to my roots’ but were this version differs from that, and the Odyssey and Richie Havens take, is that its less about musicality and much more about percussion-fuelled energy. Both ED G’s excellent ‘Afrocentric’ and ”Acid Disco’ mixes bang out commanding beats and sleazy electro basslines to grab your attention, while Wama deliver more typical House-based versions to satisfy the dancefloor. The package also comes complete with acapella’s and dubs for you to play with too, so no doubt ‘Roots’ will prove to be yet another distinctive release from Big Love.
