The coolest, classiest house outing I’ve encountered for a while comes from none other than Brett Easton, who first emerged earlier in the decade on Derrick Carter’s and Luke Solomon’s late, lamented Classic label with glorious kneesups like ‘Temptation & Lies’, ‘Broken’ and the ‘Bounce’ EP. It’s a game of two halves, side A ejaculating two warm, soulful excursions where perfectly-placed piano riffs dominate in classic style. ‘Paranoia’ is simple and melodic while ‘Feelings’ uncorks an early 90s piano chords over lush, spacey jazz-house groove. The flips goes harder and darker with ‘Creeper’ dunking a smacking funk lope recalling early 80s NY psyche-boogie before heavy duty Moroder patterns steam in. Very nasty and the killer floor-burner here. ‘Jitter’ whips up a Classic-style storm with charging piano and percussion. Proper house music in the Classic style. That’s all you need to know.
