Label boss Felix Cage returns to the Electronical Reeds set-up for his first release on the label for some while. Entitled the Secret Lover EP, it sees the producer come correct with a stunning wedge of of sultry and hypnotic tech-house, the likes of which is produced on a scrupulous and tantalising tip; further reminding us of the Belgian label’s uncanny ability for releasing music from various different angles of electronic music. This one sticks out from the pack, mind you, because it’s especially catchy and because of its relatively unique make-up. The vocals are stripped, camp and hint at an abounding air of mystery, the likes of which really add a new poignancy to the original’s frivolous tech-house textures. Warm and poised, they’re practically the antithesis to the wintry conditions we’re faced with outside right now. Elsewhere, Berlin producer Madmotormiquel puts his own spin on the track in typically inimitable fashion. His remix is unashamedly crafted on a gargantuan tip, as is evidenced from the many fervent basslines and the reliance on the groove and its many twinkling overtones. A real star-studded interpretation, it wonderfully closes an EP that’s full of merriment throughout.
