Fovus Loir – Missing Pieces – (Touch Of Class)

Fovus Loir is a brand new moniker, but the artist behind it is by no means brand new. Instead he is someone who has put out more than 40 EPs in his career, has remixed many tracks, is a formally trained pianist and has done all this from hi base in Canada’s West Coast. Here he pops up on acclaimed house label Touch of Class Records with a lush new EP that features three great originals as well as killer remixes from PillowTalk, Frivolous and Dave Aju.

First up is The Pieces That I’m Missing, which is a lush and organic house cut riddled with loose limbed funk lines and colourful synths. House music like this doesn’t come along very often, with its killer piano lines and feel good grooves, and that carries on throughout the EP. Pieces is just as richly musical but goes a little deeper, with its spoken word vocals, crisp hits and arresting textures. The last original is Moments For A Day, which is a playful broke beat jumble of trumpets, scurrying synths, vocal cries and all sorts of other real world sounds. As well as a radio edit, there is a remix from Focus Loir in his Frivolous guise and it slows things down to a lush ambient soundscape. As for the remixes, San Fran trio Pillow Talk impress once again with their soul infused, sun kissed take on The Pieces That I’m Missing, whilst Circus associate Dave Aju goes for the jugular with his frazzled techno take on Pieces. Overall, an essential EP from this new era of Daniel Gardner’s life.
