Hunter / Game have made my return to the reviewers chair worthwhile. For a long time (as far back as 2005 in my opinion) Kompakt has been the birthing canal for some exceptional techno producers and many superb techno releases, with ‘Speicher 87’ Hunter / Game step up and admirably join the ranks. ‘Adaptation’ is a taut soundscape of clicks, pops, brooding subs, dainty plucked and reverbed strings, arpeggiated synths and keys and a dark, insistent kick that drives through the heart of it like a Vampire killer’s stake. It buzzes off its own nervous tension. ‘The Path’ is a solid kick beatdown, with water droplet synths, percolating, popping effects and a raspy, snarling bass.
