Jag Kiranmay is the label boss at Seva, an imprint that tends to play host to his impressive body of work, albeit a body of work that customarily flies just under the radar. Regardless, the music usually speaks for itself – and this is definitely the case on his latest EP, the assured and confident wares that comprise the magnificent One Culture EP. Full of hidden crevices and otherworldly sounds, it’s the sound of a producer who’s evidently very much at home in the studio. Anyhow, opening up we have ‘Copycat’, which makes use of a certain type of warehouse sound that’s pretty common in East London these days. Catchy, spirited and sure to go down a hit with the likes of the Fuse crew, this is most definitely one for the discerning heads amongst you. Kiranmay’s next two originals, ‘Nagas’ and ‘One Culture’ are both metallic and unforgiving efforts, the likes of which sail closer to Berghain rather than PanoramaBar winds. Taut and full of ambience, they display the producer’s versatility too, and are battle-weapons of the type that’ll suit many floors. Culminating the release is Lozan, who churns out not one – but two – fantastic remixes. The first of these is his remix of ‘Nagas’, which is a seriously moody and ominously crafted affair, while his take on ‘One Culture’ sees the original turned into a groovy gem that’s full of bulbous synths and low-end panache. This is expert work from all involved; hats off here to the Seva label.
