Janosh – Sign Your Name (Ft. Angelo Pace) – (Dusted)

It’s been nearly 30 years since Terence Trent D’Arby’s ‘Sign Your Name’ blazed its comet like trail across the charts – back then it was an ‘erection section’, slow dance anthem for the coolest of cool – those with big hair, Banana Republic suits, brick sized mobile phones, flash company cars and no doubt did wonders for the then publicly advertised sale of condoms. Now TTD is known as Sananda Maitreya and the song has since been covered by La Roux, Sheryl Crow ft Justin Timberlake, Flying Pickets, Nightshift – there’s even a ubiqitous reggae version.

But what do I have here? I present you with two marvellous reworkings that will encourage you to fall in love with the song in just the same way. Timo Jahns ( ‘Pearls’ Poesie Musik, Dirty Vegas ‘Do What You Want’) works a monotone bassline that plucks and pulls at your senses until the pianos descend like doves in perfect contrast, in order to lift the tone and lighten the mood. It brings people together and has that ‘baby on board’ eventuality that cannot be understated. The Alex Cruz mix is lighter with reedy vocals, lighter strings and gives more a Swedish massage to the senses than Timo Jahn’s deep tissue work. Definitely worth signing up for.
