Jimmy shows why he’s one of Detroit’s hottest names at the moment with a sublimely cool slow-burner fusing glacial Nu Groove chords with squirty electro manipulation. There’s also a remix by the Toronto label’s honcho Jonny White and the mighty Kenny Glasgow under their new Art Department banner, going for an Aux 88-style dark electro feel with 808 cowbell tickling its booming udders. ‘Cerulean Penetration’ ups the tempo while retaining Jimmy’s trademark melodic interplay and deft way with a stab. The booting remix is handled by house legend Gene Farris, who boosts the kick then counters it with lighter textures in proper mid-90s fashion. ‘Seven Mile’ is a long-lost jazz-house excursion which turned up recently – all cool chords and Rhodes magic, given a nifty edit by Soul Clap and Sergio Santos. Fabulous package.
