Sooner or later someone had to cover Candido’s ’79 Salsoul classic, rather than just sample it. Louie Vega is one of a few names I would think capable of producing a respectful version which is done hear simply by adhering closely to the originals’ superlative latin/ jazz template. The sexy percussion, bassline and the hauntingly, beautiful trumpet all remain intact as does much of the arrangement. One word, sublime.
