America’s Marc Cazorla and Alex Stiff are the duo behind The Frequency, and their debut mini LP “Morning To 3am” drifts across the pond like a breath of fresh air, rising above all the talentless celebrity shite. The opening “Sanity Overture” fuses electronic tinged vocals over gentle guitar strumming and moderate handclaps, creating a beautiful song that’s out there on it’s own but is also one of the most inviting things you’ll hear this year. “Untitled Morning Song” comes on like the kick start of a great day, opening the curtains and seeing the sun blazing down on stirring city streets. “Talk To Me” is The Frequency’s pop moment, a grooving rhythm, hooky riffs and uplifting choruses, all with a slight melancholic feel, but they make it sound like they’re not really trying, their just going with it, and that’s what makes it so special. Next up is the epic “Ego Is The Drug/3am”, 17minutes 33 seconds of uninterrupted tripped out bliss, if you can imagine Ry Cooder getting it together with Suicide, and then being joined by The Doors, with Future Loop Foundation bringing up the rear, then you’re sort of on the right track, but it’s got to be heard to be believed, and the closing “Concise Rejection” wouldn’t sound out of place on Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”. But on saying that, “Morning To 3am” is an outstanding and original debut, showing The Frequency have got loads of talent and their own style, the only problem is it’s too short.
