Anyhow, the EP in question is called the Crumble EP, and it’s one that Hoffstadt produces in tandem here with Racquets, who provides a stunning vocal that’s a brilliant foil to the many melancholy meanderings on offer. This is immediately apparent on the title track, which starts off slowly but soon moves onto more sweaty dancefloor vibes. A brilliant example of how to connect the dots between pop and electronic music, that’s for sure.
From that point of view, the radio mix is certainly welcome – as are the 2 remixes that come next. Of these, the more emphatic is Andre Lodemann’s mix, which goes down a zippy tech house road. The other remix comes from Poupon, who delivers another breathtaking interpretation of the original that’s harder to pigeonhole. Overall, a thoroughly engaging EP that’s sure to earn repeated listens over the next few months.
