Soma

Master H is a Soma stalwart, signed after a jawdropping DJ display at the 1998 Winter Music Conference – my trousers were there swinging from the rafters! The paris-based producer caused untold dancefloor ructions and bowel-evacuations with the 2002 original of this mighty tune and now it reappears as his first Soma single since 2004’s ‘Thirteen’. The new versions are incredible. First, Germany’s Christian Prommer whips up a complex, swirling treatment over a propulsive, ham-smacking beat which acts as bedrock for Detroit swells, subtle melodic layers and chicken penis stabs. Four minutes in there’s a huge, bongo-splattered drop after which the effect is total hypnotic euphoria. H’s own new rework jazzes up the bassline, sprinkles haunting strings and heightens the Motor City element for a beautiful hi-tech masterpiece. Controlled dynamite which explodes in the heart when Martin Luther King’s ‘We shall overcome’ graces the drop. Looks like another killer year for Soma.
