Darkroom Dubs

Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs has been responsible for a steady stream of quality deep house-slanted floor-burners with one thing in common: they’re always forging forward, preferably into deepest space. Mirror Music is the latest project featuring Silicone Soul’s Graeme Reedie and composer Dave Donaldson, who’s just worked with Craig Armstrong on the score for the new Incredible Hulk movie. The EP’s title track also boasts bulging muscles, especially beneath the old turbo-trunks, but is shot with a unique, haunting dub quality which elevates it into the realms of greatness. The title track from their upcoming album The Strange Things I’ll Remember follows in the form of a remix by label-mates Jet Project who set up a resonant bass throb before adding interweaving strings and jazzy keyboards before an unearthly spacey drop. The EP closes with the atmospheric house of ‘Medicine’, draped with guitar, sweeping strings and an overall mournful quality. Monumental tackle from one of our best labels.
