What else can you say about the ubiquitous Rodriguez Jr. that hasn’t already been said? The answer is of course to simply listen to the superlative producer’s music. And in this case that begins with his first rate choice from Mobille’s impressive catalogue of ingenious electronic numbers on cd one. Setting the scene is Ray Okpara’s tastefully atmospheric ‘Good Times’ as the music proceeds to traverse through the labels typically challenging array of sounds: Re.You – Junction, and Anja Schneider ‘Something That´s for Life’ featuring Cari Golden being particular standouts. The second CD then sees nine exclusive tracks produced in collaboration with the likes of Tassilo, And.Id, Sebo K, and Safeword all receiving their outing. And as you might guess the producer has saved the best for last by including the excellent stab driven ‘Hartwood’, the emotive vocal strains of ‘Rancho Anthemo’, and the sassy funk of ‘Ghetto Blaster’ all leaving a clearly indelible impression. Mobilee is indeed a very fine record label and Volume 7 proves that all over again.
