Nimmo & The Gauntletts – Others – (Kitsune)

When the chorus hook runs ‘Do you do it to them, when you do it to me, do you think about the others, when you’re alone with me ?’ you know it won’t be long before Nimmo and the Gauntlets, this young London based guitar / indie / folk outfit follow in the footsteps of London Grammar, Chasing Grace, Lilly Wood and The Prick and embed themselves into the national consciousness. Their release of ‘Others’ with remixes fro Joe Godard, Reset Safari, Wild Beasts and Logo is a good indication that it’s time for all the up and coming live acts to break out of their studio shells and show us what they are capable of on the summer festival circuit. The original is a driving, throbbing guitar and piano led vocal treat. The Joe Godard (Hot Chip) remix is a synth heavy, slo-mo disco rewiring, Reset Safari up the ante for a steady four to the floor workout. Wildbeasts is a swirling, atmospheric whisper on a wind in a snowstorm – at once delicate, then muddy, distorted and dark. LOGO is a soaring, off beat attack that feels more main room than its downtempo size looks. Ones to watch.
