Omer Grinker & Noam Levy – Relations – (Parallel Label)
DMC World Magazine
Israeli producer Omer Grinker conjures up an excellent release here alongside Noam Levy, another producer who’s a prominent member of the Parallel label. The label, of course, is one that regularly champions emerging artists, but both of these guys are pretty interwoven with the label’s story, especially considering they’ve already repped them with some flair. Anyway, it’s the brilliant ‘Alone’ that ushers in this package, and it’s a serious statement of intent from the duo. Foreboding but also melancholic, it chugs along at a pace that makes for a crisp and solid outing. Pablo Bolivar’s remix is covered in neat synths that make for a more intense listen, and the EP takes no time to draw breath as the action comes thick and fast from here on in. ‘Relations’ makes use of a nice male vocal to bring the ambiance, and is entirely dramatic in structure and certainly not lacking in personality. The Monkey Brothers go all moody on their adaptation, as they rough up a remix that’s even more intricate and detailed than what’s come before. ‘So Much Faith’ joins the dots between Chicago and Detroit with distinction, as it lays out a path that’s dotted with textures from both sides of the fence. The cowbells are a nice touch (and so is the occasional sax-line), and it’s nothing if not adhered to with a real precision by both producers. Gorgeous stuff for fans of the discerning stuff.
