Simion – U+I (With Mixes by Darius Syrossian & More)

While he might cut a pretty elusive figure, there’s little doubting that Simion is a man who’s able to bring the heat when it comes to crafting delicate house music. If you’ve already copped the sounds of one of his latest hits, ‘U+I’, then you’ll no what we’re talking about. Simply put, the man means business when it comes to the house side of the spectrum. How apt then, that the track is given a new lease of life on Hedonism (where, incidentally, it was first released), complete with a really well chosen list of remix heavyweights. The first of these is the star draw, Darius Syrossian, a man who’s been on fire of late thanks to his inclinations at Sankeys, particularly with the CD he’s just released. Anyway, his remix of the track is as you’d expect in that it takes no prisoners, making it exactly the sort of fare you’d expect him to let out of the bag during one of his infamous Tribal Sessions in Manchester or Ibiza. Betoko’s handling of the track is no less restrained. The Brazilian’s deep understanding of what it takes to move the dancefloor comes to prominence once more amongst a collection of well executed melodies, before Italian boys Paul C + Paulo Martini see us out amongst some lavish basslines on their final interpretation. All things told, this is a virtuoso display from the Hedonism camp. Remix packages are rarely worth their weight, but a thankful exception has been made in this instance.
