If you like trippy, psychedelic grooves look no further than Simon Baker’s Chapter One EP. It’s a rich and fulfilling four-layer affair that will satisfy even the hungriest of appetites. The title track, ‘Chapter One’ wraps a tightly edited, muffled then clear vocal cry around some anti-gravity beats and clicking claves until it loops itself around your senses like rampant ivy. ‘Womb’ leads you deceptively with its soft thudding kick into a subterranean universe where rapid movement by pulleys and wheels is horizontal, vertical anfd simultaneous. A little 303 flavour goes a long way here too. ‘Florence’ has got the funk that will make an early doors dancefloor leap out of its skin. Finally ‘Turmoil’ is a low mantra for mid set mentalism and that’s the way Truesoul introduce Simon Baker to the world. An admirable first outing for Simon Baker and an enviable release from Adam Beyer’s Truesoul imprint.
