Somehow both Free2Air and Ultra, in the UK and US respectively, failed to
make ‘Round & Around’ the hit it should’ve been; I just hope that Data
doesn’t do the same with what could easily be as big, if not bigger then
what never was! Far removed from the previous disco-etched ‘Happy People’
and ‘So High’, the Detroit-native has made a track that’s not only been a
mainstay on the Essential Selection for several months, but is even more
anthemic sounding. Rocker too, and directly influenced by the likes of Inner
City (whom SR’s Dennis White was once musical director), Taj Bell offers the
optimistic lyrical hooks, while a neat re-edit by equally protagonist
sounding The Scumfrog gets the balance of commerciality and underground
appeal just right.
