Anyone good enough to play a live set on the same bill as Underground Resistance must have something going on, but the last release on Matt’s esteemed 11th Hour label was the sublimely innovative ‘Endless Days, which put the Canadian-born, London-based producer on the techno map and in a league of his own. There are similarities with UR, but only in the way he plugs into techno’s past and present [with distinct Detroit and Chicago flavours] then uses it to hotwire his craft in the direction of his own future. ‘Col D’Aubisque’ rides a galvanising suction groove where clicks and hihats register with deadly precision as the swirling atmosphere and intensity build in classic Detroit fashion. ‘Dissolver’ is deep and prowling with ethereal strings offsetting the growling undertow. ‘Infinite Unknowns’ and the title track chart booming electro mutants, the latter stoking a huge wall of soaring chords and spaced washes peppered with highly-effective old school claps. A blistering set displaying one of today’s most exciting pure techno talents.
