The Emperor Machine – Pop the Lid – (Southern Fried Records)

Another excellent release this week sees Andy Meecham’s twisted Disco project deliver an irresistible bass-pumping workout that feverishly references early eighties New York. Plenty of Dub action going on too obviously with sassy low-slung beats and tripped out electronics working the rhythm, alongside ice cool vocals, into oblivion – that’s a good thing. The Jacques Renault versions proceed to lend it a contemporary edge, although either way it’s all first-rate excitement.
