Kenny Thomas is most definitely back! The silver-tonsiled UK soulster, probably best remembered for his covers of soul anthems back in the early 90’s, fronts the debut release for Soul-Fi records with a powehouse version of Gwen McRae’s “Keep The Fires Burning”. There’s really nothing that needs changing with this classic, something both Richard Earnshaw and Tony Economides recognise, as they both provide bumping, groovesome house music that allows Thomas to reign with his extraordinary vocal range. Playground offer a more commercially minded mix (including a neat little dub for some two copy fun), rounding out a seriously good package. Recommended.
