Good to welcome back Domino’s Canadian pair, especially when they’re delivering the sharp pop they do here. ‘Hazel’ is slightly wistful, slightly dreamy, yet has some good sounds that propel it closer to the electro dancefloor. Ewan Pearson picks up on this potential, sharpening a few edges on the beats and the synths of his disco edit, but then stripping everything back for a really bassy, harder hitting house mix. The vocals – not too dissimilar to Prefab Sprout – work really well in this context, adding a bit of Balearic warmth to proceedings, while a squiggly riff near the end towards the middle is perfectly timed as things hot up. Very good.
