If ‘Hidden Heart of Gold’ was a painted picture imagine yourself transfixed by a watercolour with the lasting intensity of oils and gouache. At once delicate, ghostly and shimmering, by turns colourful, bright, substantial – ‘Hidden Heart’s stuttering synths and choral voices are mixed and blended with a heartbeat rhythm, bass line pulse and tremolo strings. At 12`53 it’s a total mind trip, body trap or any classy dj’s toilet track since it’s long and interesting enough for you to go there and back, wash hands and gauge dancer reactions to it on the way back all without losing a second of energy on the dance floor. The radio edit is probably the mix of choice for discerning specialist radio djs but running at more than eight minutes long, it’s still probably too magnum opus for most radio stations to get their heads around. It’s a beautiful, glistening thing.
