Tied is a brand new label and artist collective that hail from the famous and historical house loving city of Chicago. The first release on this sure to be exciting label is from Topper, Andrea Ferlin, and RG (of Sleep Is Commercial and Club der Visionaere fame) who together call themselves the Memo Boys. Their self titled first EP is a great indication of what toexpect from his label and is full of super cool grooves. Gem 1 is a deep, shuffling, atmospheric house cum minimal cut that is straight from the basement of a trendy Berlin club. With spooky pads, creepy synths and feathery light percussion it is a fine opener. Gem 2 is a darker, weird, more electronic bit of music wired up with odd textures, drunken synth sounds and robot vocals that really creep into your brain. It’s elongated and languid, symphonic and deep and is a second excellent track. Rounding out the EP in great fashion is Martinez’s Concealed Dub, which flips Gem 1 into a freaky beat with scurrying sounds. It’s an unsettled atmosphere that is weird and paranoid and is all imbued within the groove. Some sombre chords add more weight and overall this rounds out a most brilliant and captivating first EP.
