Various Artists – Kosmophono Sampler – (Kosmophono)

As an introduction to the sort of sounds to expect from the Kosmophono label this new VA EP is a fine start. It offers four tracks, some solo, some collars, and comes a whole year after their first release. It was more than worth the wait, though, as it explores some intriguing minimal house tropes from start to finish. One of the standouts is the groaning, paranoid, abstract and slithering grooves of DES, the cut by Fuse resident Antony Difrancesco and foremost Dutch talent Ferro. Dark and twisted, its a ghouls cut that will stimulate mind, body and soul. Down the Burrow by David Gtronic is a more slap-funk styled thing with lumpy, intricate drums and frazzled synth lines all working you into a tightly woven groove and Algunas Palabras is another impressive offering. This one comes from He Did and is the most perfectly reductive brew of synthetic, trip sounds and waif melodies. its the sort of thing you need to hear in a dark room in the dead of night and rounds out an essential second EP from this label.
