Yotam Avni – UR Sleeping / Better Days – (Be As One)

Shlomi Aber’s Be As One label is and has always been a fine outlet for modern day tech house sounds and now it turns to Yotam Avni for a new and tidy two track EP that again confirms that to be the case. It’s Avni’s debut on the label and is a fine one indeed.

Opener UR Sleeping is a gritty, stripped back bit of concrete techno funk with sharp, frazzled hooks, mysterious vocal samples and some well used effects for plenty of drama. The drums grind on below, sandy hi hats help things along up top and the cumulative effect is one of fine techno pressure. On the flip side, Better Days is a much brighter and lighter proposition with tooting chords, rubbery drums and nice loose, jailing percussion that makes for a sunny groove. It will sound great on the terraces of Ibiza next summer and in winter will do a fine job of warming floors through.
