Deep house will never die and so it is that Colours Audio label boss J.A.Y.C.E. serves up five fantastic examples of the genre. He does so with Eric Racy and all the way explores many different moods and grooves, but always with real heart and soul. It’s hard to pick a favourite here, but closer ‘Sarah’s Lullaby’ might be it: it’s a mid tempo track that is woozy and deep, with melodies that make you sway and vocals that really get into your heart. Elsewhere opener African Ancestors is a nicely organic track with finger clicks, muffled vocal sounds and prominent, well defined drums that are loose and encourage you to get in the same way. Love Range is more light and airy, with bouncing drums and more well crafted synths carrying you away into the cosmos. 33 Seconds is a deep affair that is one to really get lost in and layers up great keys, pads and percussion into musical layers that never seem to end. Clearer Signs then gets more uptempo and driven but again the overall sound is warm and human, inviting and organic. It is another fine track on a fine EP.
