JAMES CURD – TWO DECADES AND A DAY EP (CLASSIC MUSIC COMPANY)

The ever prolific and supremely talented James Curd delivers a stonking double header for Classic. In the red corner there’s ‘Treat Treat Treat’ works its slappy kick and clap over a funky, epic, disco filtered journey that blazes and burns like marijuana seeds through any item of clothing you care to mention. It has a stairmaster groove that is relentless in its incremental build to a pinched and tweaking 303 acid workout. Then drop. Then drum roll. Then it’s back to the growling groove and that glorious business of dancing. You’ll do more footwork tricks to this than a circus dog with a serious retirement plan. ‘Bring Back The Whoop’ bounces on a Michael Jackson ‘Bad’ reminiscent  bassline and a cut up and full hip house vocal (Beart Who? Masquerading as Fuzzzy Cufflinxxx) that whisks it into stiff peaks. The steam train whistle cum smooth organ keys are a nice touch and the 303 burbles like a crustal clear brook. ‘Bring Back The Whoop’ is an unassuming beast that’ll make you dance like your pants are on fire – gloss over it at your peril.
