JIMPSTER – SILENT STARS – FREERANGE

Few people do sultry, nocturnal deep house better than Jimpster, so it is great to report a seventh album from the Freerange stalwart – and more importantly one that keeps the quality threshold high. Deep house is never mundane or routine in his hands, so with well chosen vocals, shimmering textures and strong beats, he works through a series of mesmerising tracks, led by ‘Yansa’, which channels the spirit of Steve Reich, ‘Crave’, with Florence Rawlings, and Under Wraps – to name just three excellent moments. Even the slower The Sun Comes Up, a dreamy piano-led number featuring Jinadu, is a treat that should work ideally with an early Balearic morning. Business as usual in the Jimpster camp – which is great news.
