There aren’t many people around who make music like this guy. Tobin literally takes sound, and twists it into rhythm, whether it wants to be or not. On this latest EP (a taster of his forthcoming “Foley Room” LP), “Esthers” showcases motorbike engines, wasps, piano riffs and drums, and still manages to sound cohesive, if not a little deranged. “Here Comes The Moon Man” is a spiritual call to scrap metal everywhere – a mantra built from the girders up. The real surprise, though, is “Bloodstone”, wreaking mellow havoc with a classical motif from Kronos Quartet over almost witch craftian passages. A mighty talent indeed, that Amon Tobin.
