Coyote
EP4
Is It Balearic?

I’ve unashamedly slobbered like a loon over the previous three excursions into a deeper state of blessed-up hallucino-dub which is so perfect for warm afternoons and sun-kissed beaches that this simple mission could be doubted, hence the label’s title. Now they’ve progressed, speared through the clam’s udders and emerged the other side with a new dub hybrid while also venturing into song territory, placing a sampled vocal over acoustic guitars and percussive shuffle on ‘A Part Of Me’. At times I’m reminded of mid-90s Orb, when Dr Alex and crew returned to explore the Earth as a nuclear dub band with the heavy basslines and a barrage of alien melodies and fried King Tubby on toast, also the way they use a sample of a native American woman expounding about coyotes and stars on ‘Coyote Star’ [which I swore at first was Patti Smith]. ‘Afro Balearic’ introduces effective percussion, coming with a wigged out dub from Rune Lindbaek. What this lot are up to is great: never mind is it Balearic, is it good? The answer is a resounding affirmative [served with lashings of reverb by a naked rooster in a day-glo cod-piece]
